What is contrast therapy?
Contrast therapy means alternating between heat and cold, usually a few rounds of sauna followed by a short cold plunge. Athletes have used it for decades, and many people now use it to recover from training, unwind after work, or just feel good. Our room lets you do the full routine in private, at your own pace.
Infrared sauna
Infrared saunas warm your body directly at a lower air temperature than a traditional sauna, so many people find them easier to stay in. People use them to:
- Relax and de-stress. Heat encourages your muscles to loosen and your body to slow down.
- Ease muscle tightness and soreness after training or a long day at a desk.
- Sleep better. Many people find an evening sauna helps them wind down.
Our sauna seats up to four people and is a low-EMF model.
Cold plunge
A cold plunge is a short, controlled immersion in cold water. People use it to:
- Reduce muscle soreness after hard workouts. This is one of the best-supported uses of cold water.
- Feel alert and energized. The rush of cold gives many people a lift in mood and focus that lasts for hours.
- Build resilience. Learning to stay calm in the cold is a skill, and it gets easier with practice.
A coach’s note: if your goal is building muscle, avoid plunging right after strength training. Cold immediately after lifting may blunt some of the training effect. Plunge on rest days, or after cardio or sport instead.
Red light therapy
Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light. We use the KALA Elite panel. Research is still growing, but studies suggest it may:
- Support skin health, including the appearance of fine lines and skin tone
- Help with muscle recovery after exercise
- Ease joint and muscle discomfort for some people
It’s gentle, painless and takes 20 minutes. Use it in the contrast room, or book it on its own.
